DK’s Recovery covers Gleadless and Gleadless Valley around the clock. The estate was built across a valley side, and the layout it produced is the reason recovery here is not like recovery anywhere flatter.

Our breakdown recovery runs day and night. Whether the car has stopped on Gleadless Road, will not restart outside the shops at Newfield Green, or is sitting on a slope with a handbrake that has given up, one call gets a truck moving. Tell us the road, the block and how steep it is, and we will bring the right vehicle.

When a vehicle cannot be driven, we come and get it. We recover cars, vans, motorcycles and non-runners across Gleadless, and we carry them on a flatbed rather than dragging them. That matters for a locked wheel, a failed gearbox, an automatic that should not be towed, or bodywork that will not survive a rope.
Two things make Gleadless different. The first is gradient: when the estate was laid out in the late 1950s the architects were building on slopes averaging around one in eight and reaching one in four in places, and the housing was designed around those contours rather than flattening them. The second is what that produced — cul-de-sacs, stepped terraces, pedestrian walkways between blocks and parking courts set below or above the road. Between them they decide which truck we send far more often than the fault does.
The same trucks cover the streets either side of the valley, so if you are closer to Handsworth, Woodhouse or Crystal Peaks than to Gleadless itself, it makes no difference to us. Tell us the road name.

Breakdowns do not keep office hours, so neither do we. Early starts, night shifts, weekends and bank holidays included. If you are stuck on the estate at three in the morning, the phone is answered by someone who can send a truck rather than a call centre that will ring you back.

Years of recovery work across Sheffield’s hill estates, where access and gradient decide the method on almost every job.

We give you a realistic time and a price before we set off, and we turn up when we say we will.

Gleadless Valley was built across a hillside rather than flattened onto it, and everything awkward about recovering a vehicle here follows from that decision.
Those are the slopes the estate was designed around when it was laid out between 1955 and 1962. A car with no drive, no brakes, or a handbrake that has seized off is a different job on a gradient like that: it has to be chocked and secured before it moves at all, and the truck has to be placed for the slope rather than for the space. Tell us how steep it is and which way the car is facing when you ring.
The estate's three districts — Herdings, Hemsworth and Rollestone — were built with housing stepped down the contours, which produced short cul-de-sacs, pedestrian walkways between blocks and parking areas set above or below the road they belong to. A recovery truck needs somewhere to turn and somewhere to lower a ramp, and neither is guaranteed. The single most useful thing you can tell us is whether there is a through road or whether we will be reversing back out.
These are the roads that carry the estate's traffic and the ones we can usually reach quickly. If the car will still roll and it is safe to do so, getting it onto one of these rather than leaving it in a court makes the job faster and cheaper for you. If it will not move, that is fine, but say so.
Herdings sits at the top with the tower blocks and the shops on Morland Road, and the Supertram terminates at Herdings Park. Cars left at the terminus all day are a common winter call, and there is normally room to get a vehicle alongside there, which is not true everywhere on the estate.
We cover Gleadless and Gleadless Townend, the whole valley estate including Herdings, Hemsworth, Rollestone and Newfield Green, and out to Heeley, Norton, Arbourthorne, Base Green, Frecheville and Charnock.
Usually, but it is the thing worth telling us in advance. The valley estate is full of short cul-de-sacs, walkways between blocks and parking courts set above or below the road. What we need to know is whether there is a through road or whether we will be reversing back out, and whether there is room to lower a ramp.
It gets chocked and secured before anything moves, and the truck is positioned for the gradient rather than for the parking space. On slopes like the ones here that is not optional. It takes a little longer and it is the only safe way to do it, so mention the slope when you call.
Yes. Cars left at Herdings Park all day are one of our regular winter callouts, and there is normally room to get a vehicle alongside there, which makes a jump start straightforward.
It depends where you are, where the vehicle needs to go, the time of day and how difficult the access is. A car on Gleadless Road is a quicker job than one in a parking court halfway down a slope, and the price reflects that. Call with the details and you will have a figure before we set off.
Only if it will roll safely and you can do it without risk. If it will, getting onto Blackstock Road, Gleadless Road or Norton Avenue makes the recovery faster. If it will not move, leave it where it is and tell us exactly where it is.
Yes, and Gleadless Townend, Arbourthorne, Heeley, Norton, Base Green and Frecheville. The whole valley estate is regular ground for us.
