DK’s Recovery covers Stocksbridge, Deepcar and the Little Don valley around the clock. It is roughly ten miles out from Sheffield, at the point where the city gives way to the Peak District, and that changes what a recovery involves.
We recover cars, vans, motorcycles and non-runners here on a flatbed rather than dragging them. Being honest about it: Stocksbridge is a longer run than our city work, so call early rather than waiting to see whether the car restarts, and we will give you a realistic time rather than an optimistic one.
We come up the valley through Hillsborough and across from Barnsley, which is worth saying on the phone so the right route is taken.

DK’s Recovery covers Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Bolsterstone and the Ewden valley, 24 hours a day. Call with the road and the nearest landmark, and you will get a straight answer on timing and price before we set off.
Breakdowns do not keep office hours, so neither do we. Early shifts at the works, weekends, and the middle of winter nights when the moor road is the last place anyone wants to stop. If you are stranded up here, the phone is answered by someone who can send a truck rather than a call centre that will ring you back.

A steep-sided valley with a steelworks along the bottom, a bypass carrying trans-Pennine traffic past it, and open moorland immediately west. Each of those produces a different kind of callout.
Opened in 1988 to take the Sheffield to Manchester traffic out of Stocksbridge and Deepcar, it links the M1 at junctions 35A and 36 to the A628. It is fast, it carries a lot of freight, and it is not a road to stand beside. If you have stopped on it, get everyone out on the verge side, well back from the carriageway, and call from there. If the vehicle is in a running lane or anyone is hurt, dial 999 first.
West of here the road climbs onto open moorland toward Manchester. It is exposed, it closes in snow and high winds, and phone signal is unreliable in places. If you break down up there, tell us the clearest landmark or marker you can see, stay with the vehicle only if it is safe, and expect the weather to affect how long we take. Our guide to winter breakdowns covers what is worth carrying if you use that road regularly.
Stocksbridge is built along a narrow valley with the steelworks running through the middle of it. The roads down there are constrained, with shift traffic at predictable hours and heavy vehicles using the same access. Tell us which side of the valley you are on, because crossing it is not always quick.
The lanes up out of the valley toward Bolsterstone, Ewden and Underbank are steep, narrow and unlit. A car with no drive or no brakes on one of those needs securing before it moves at all, and a recovery truck needs somewhere to turn. Give us the nearest farm, junction or landmark rather than a postcode alone.
We cover Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Bolsterstone, Ewden, Wharncliffe Side, Oughtibridge and the roads down toward Chapeltown and Hillsborough. Penistone and the A616 east are on the same run.
Longer than a city job, and we will say so honestly rather than guess low. It is about ten miles from Sheffield and the roads in are not fast. Call as early as you can rather than waiting to see whether the car restarts.
Yes. Be aware it is exposed moorland: it closes in snow and high winds, and signal is patchy. Give us the clearest landmark or marker post you can see, and if conditions are bad tell us what the weather is doing where you are, because it affects how we get to you.
Yes, including the junctions with the M1 at 35A and 36. It is a fast road carrying a lot of freight, so get well back from the carriageway before you call, and dial 999 first if the car is in a running lane or anyone is injured.
Usually, but tell us the nearest farm, junction or landmark and whether there is a gateway or passing place near you. Those lanes have few places to turn a recovery truck, so we need to approach from the right end.
It depends where you are, where the vehicle is going and the time of day, and distance counts for more here than on a city job. Call with the details and we will price it properly before we set off rather than afterwards.
Yes, along with Bolsterstone, Ewden and the roads down toward Chapeltown. The whole of the upper Don valley is covered.
