Moving a car between garages in Sheffield takes more than choosing a collection time. The first workshop needs to release it, the second needs space to receive it, and the transporter needs to know its present condition. Agree those three points before the vehicle is moved.
A transfer may be useful when a specialist is needed, a repair appointment changes or you choose another workshop. DK’s vehicle transport service can assess the proposed journey and loading requirements.
Get the receiving garage’s agreement first
Confirm the booking with a named contact. Ask whether the garage can accept a non-running vehicle, where it should be unloaded and what time somebody will be present. A repair appointment later in the week does not necessarily mean there is space for the car today.
Send the full delivery address and the correct workshop entrance. If the car needs to be left in a particular bay, pass that instruction to the transporter before collection.
Arrange release with the current workshop
Ask the current garage what needs to happen before handover, including any agreed payments or collection authorisation. Give it the transporter’s details and a contact number. Resolve any disagreement with the garage directly; a transport booking does not settle a repair or payment dispute.
Confirm who will hand over the keys. Ask for the inspection report, fault findings and any instructions the next repairer needs. Share these with the receiving workshop yourself rather than assuming they will travel with the driver.
Explain whether the car is complete
A car can arrive at a workshop running and later be partly dismantled. Tell the transporter if wheels, suspension parts or other components have been removed, whether it steers and whether the brakes release. Ask the workshop to identify any loose parts that need separate handling.
Do not request that staff improvise a loading method. The transporter should decide whether the vehicle can be moved with the available equipment. Our vehicle recovery page explains the information needed for an immobilised vehicle.
Book a realistic collection window
Both workshops may have opening hours, lunch closures or restricted yard access. Match the collection window to the receiving garage’s availability, allowing for the actual journey rather than treating pickup and delivery as the same appointment.
For example, a move from a Sheffield workshop to a specialist in Rotherham should include confirmation from both garages. Give the exact addresses rather than assuming every location in the area can accept the same truck.
Do I need to be present?
Ask both garages and the transporter. Collection may be possible through authorised staff, but the permission, keys and handover arrangements must be agreed first.
Does the transport quote include repairs?
Vehicle transport and workshop repairs are separate services. Confirm what each business is charging for before accepting either quotation.
Arrange your workshop transfer
Send both garage addresses, the contact names, vehicle details and its current loading condition. Mention any collection deadline or restricted access.
